Il viaggio dell‘elefante Solimano, partito nella metà del XVI secolo dall’India per Lisbona, inviato come dono dai sovrani del Portogallo - Joao III e sua moglie Caterina d’Asburgo, al cugino, l’Arciduca Massimiliano d’Austria, è il tema centrale della mostra/evento 2012. Durante il suo viaggio verso Vienna, l‘elefante ha fatto tappa a Bressanone fra lo stupore della gente, che mai prima di allora aveva visto un simile animale. 

Prendendo spunto dall‘ enorme varietà di etnie e culture, sfiorate dall‘elefante durante il suo lungo viaggio, l‘associazione Zero ha organizzato una mostra/evento “open air” nel giardino “Marzari”. Al progetto espositivo, intitolato “Il giardino segreto”, parteciperanno pittori, scultori, grafici, calligrafi, poeti, fotografi, musicisti, registi e vignettisti, in rappresentanza delle più svariate forme d‘espressione artistica. 

Contemporaneamente, le opere artistiche, nella forma di sagome di elefante decorate, partiranno dal giardino “Marzari”, luogo storico di una delle soste di Solimano, per rievocare in maniera simbolica, una parte del viaggio cinquecentesco percorso dall’elefante: esse attraverseranno l’Alto Adige, il Trentino e la Lombardia. Viste le dimensioni e il peso delle bestiole, li abbiamo scherzosamente denominati “Elefanti volanti” !

L’Associazione Zero ha fornito circa cinquanta sagome di elefanti, uguali per forma e dimensioni.
Alla decorazione hanno partecipato artisti internazionali e altoatesini, esordienti e famosi, associazioni culturali e umanitarie, scuole, studenti, artigiani e simpatizzanti.
Ognuno di loro ha interpretato in maniera personale il tema proposto, usando tecniche e forme espressive in completa libertà. Ne sono scaturite “opere uniche” vitali, personali, irripetibili che verranno offerte al pubblico destinando una parte del ricavato all‘organizzazione che protegge l‘elefante asiatico e il suo habitat: The Asian Elephant Foundation.

Mitte des XVI Jahrhunderts trat Soliman, der Elefant, seine lange Reise von Indien nach Lissabon an. Er war als Geschenk der portugiesischen Könige Joao III und Katharina von Habsburg an den Erzherzog Maximilian von Österreich bestimmt. Während seines letzten Reiseabschnittes nach Wien, zog der Elefant durch Brixen, wo die Bevölkerung das unbekannte Tier nicht wenig bestaunte.
Die Vielfalt von Ethnien und Kulturen, die Soliman während seiner Reise kennenlernte, sind das zentrale Thema der vom Kulturverein Zero organisierten Event-Ausstellung “Der geheime Garten” im Marzari Garten in Brixen.
Maler, Grafiker, Bildhauer, Kalligrafen, Poeten, Musiker, Fotografen, Filmemacher und Karikaturisten vertreten hier verschiedenste künstlerische Ausdrucksweisen.
Vom Marzari Garten aus, dem originalen Aufenthaltsort des Elefanten, gehen dann Kunstwerke in Form einer Elefantenschablone auf eine symbolische Reise durch Südtirol, Trentino und der Lombardei.

Projekt “The Asian Elephant Foundation”

Der Kulturverein Zero hat den Künstlern zirka 50 Elefantenschablonen ausgehändigt. Bei der Schaffung der Kunst-Elefanten wirkten mehr und weniger bekannte Südtiroler und internationale Künstler mit, kulturelle und humanitäre Vereinigungen, Schulen, Studenten, Handwerker und Sympathisanten.
Jeder von ihnen hat das Thema auf seine Art interpretiert, frei und ohne technische Vorgaben.
Das Endresultat sind Einzelstücke, vital, persönlich und unvergleichlich, die dem Besucher angeboten werden und deren Teilerlös der “The Asian Elephant Foundation” für den Erhalt des vom Aussterben bedrohten Asiatischen Elefanten zukommt. 

In the mid-sixteenth century, an Elephant named Soliman, who had already made a voyage from India to Lisbon, was sent as a gift from the rulers of Portugal – Joao III and his wife, Catherine of Habsburg, to Joao‘s cousin, the Archduke Maximilian of Austria. Soliman’s journey is the central theme of this 2012 exhibition. During his journey to Vienna, the elephant stopped in Brixen to the excitement and wonder of the local people, who had never before seen such an animal.
Inspired by the rich variety of cultures which the elephant encountered on his journey, the Zero cultural association has organised an open air event in the Marzari garden. The exhibition, entitled “The Secret Garden”, will bring together a diverse selection of work from painters, sculptors, graphic artists, calligraphers, poets, musicians, photographers, filmmakers, and cartoonists.
At Marzari Garden, where the elephant originally stayed, the works of art form an elephant pattern, and will take the audience on a symbolic Journey through South Tyrol, Trentino and Lombardy.

The Asian Elephant Foundation Project
The Zero culture association gave the artists approximately 50 identical elephant templates. Taking part were artists, both established and new, cultural and humanitarian organisations, schools, students, artisans and various supporters. Each of them has engaged with the theme in a very personal and individual way, and without any technical specifications.
The results are unique, vital and personal, and a portion of the proceeds will go to The Asian Elephant Foundation, which protects endangered Asian elephants.
